Rod And Reel Setup

Featured Replies

Hello guys new to the forum. Went out fishing with father in law last week and caught my first Bass.

I bought a cheap R2F, ready to fish combo, at Walmart. I didn't think I would enjoy going out fishing with father in law, but I'm hooked.

I'm looking at buying a decent setup. For a reel Stradic CI4+ 2500 or 3000? I like the added spool yardage you get on 3000. For rod Avid X 7' Medium Fast or G Loomis E6X Medium Fast?

I mainly will do fresh water fishing but ocassionally will do salt water as I live on the coast. Please help with setup appreciate the input!

Welcome.  My only suggestion is that if prior to purchasing, you have an opportunity to handle the gear you are considering, please do so.  I predict that in the long run, the feel and balance of the reel on your chosen rod is going to be far more important than spool size.

I got a 3000 reel sight-unseen and while it is a sweet operating machine, it is, IMO, oversized for the rods that I was targeting putting it on.
