As I said in my other post, I am looking to purchase a Nitro Z7 at the end of this month.  Before I do, I need a little help.  I was told

there is a 2 Bank Onboard Battery Charger for the 24Volt trolling motor and than there is a cranking battery for the Merc 150 Opti.

 

Why is there not a three bank charger on the boat to make sure the cranking battery is charged too?

 

Is it just because they want me to upgrade to the 3 bank?

Most larger outboards have a charging system that will charge the crank battery while the motor is running.  Perhaps the previous owner didn't think it was necessary to spend a bit more for the three bank.  I would run a three bank if it were my boat.  Things like depth finders, lights, bilge pumps, and livewells can wear down a battery quite a bit during the day.  I like the added assurance that every time I go out that all my batteries are fully charged.

The newer Opti Pro motors have a 60 amp, 756 watt belt driven alternator.......enough to keep everything at full charge while running the main.

But the issue is charging ALL the batteries while on the trailer, AT THE SAME TIME. If it were me I would sell the 2 bank and replace it with a 3 bank smart charger.

Tracker Marine is notorious for not fully equipping their rigs.  If you have much in the way of electronics and run the aerator then you need a 3 bank or need to add a 1 bank.

If Tracker/Nitro rigged their boats the way other manufacturers do, their advertised no haggle price would be similar to the other brands. Get a 3 bank charger. The alternators in the outboards will charge the starting battery only if you're running it long distances. If you get the 3 bank charger, you are guaranteed your battery will be fully charged when you go to the lake.

Leavet as is and buy a portable 10a single bank charger. You wont have to charge the starting/electronics battery everytime

Probably a credit from Nitro if you change from the standard 2-bank to 3-bank.  With extra electronics, go with a 3-bank that meets the battery specs.  Might want to buy separately and have dealer install so you can find better model selection and price.  Some board sponsors may offer discount prices.

That is stupid. Then you are using 12V to charge 24 V.

You would need a 24V charger to charge two 12V batteries in series.

 

There would have to be a charger switch to put the batteries in parallel to do what you described and have it work.

 

If you don't have that switch, I would not let "they" work on my boat.

They is bass pro shops nitro dealer I don't run nitro anymore had too many problems I now run ranger but I agree it was stupid configuration
