Cheap, Starter Kayak

Featured Replies

I wanna buy a cheap kayak this winter. Mainly so I don't have to wade the river and can just cruise down to some spots and hop out to fish. Looking to spend less then $500, haven't really looked around at anything. Any help would be great! Thanks

Check out Dicks Sporting Goods, they'll have something for fishing in that price range. You can also check out the CL and find some deals on used. IMO I would look for a fishing specific yak that will have the rod holders and what not.

I don't know how big you are, but check out the Feelfree Move Angler. It's at your price point.

alright! Are those a sit on top style kayak?

I think they have both. They also carry Sun Dolphin, and Field and Stream brand kayak, and they should be in the same price range you are looking at.

I'd try to find a used ascend fs12t. They run $550 new. I understand you just want one to use to get to a few spots on the river. Once you use it though and see how much fun they're to fish from I think you'll find yourself wanting more. That yak will allow you stand and fish and also float the river. Unlike a $200 yak.

Craigslist. I bought my Slayer 12 for $600 and my Jackson Cruise 12 for $700 on CL. There are deals to be had, just have to be patient. I used the cPro app on my phone and it would alert me whenever a listing matching my search criteria was added.

From everything I have seen and heard it is cheaper to go with a non fishing kayak and make it a fishing kayak. The rod holder on fishing kayaks are cheap, and make the yak itself cost 100 bucks more, you can very easily buy rod holders for a fair price and put them on, up to you though, just depends on if you want a ready to fish kayak or one that you will have to put a few hours into before its want you want exactly.

I have a field and stream talon 12 foot kayak that I would be selling soon. I have a seat upgrade on it and a depth finder. You aren't far from me so I'd be willing to let you try it out if you want. I'd be negotiable on price.

Perception pescador yak at Dicks sporting good.

Ive got a old town vapor. Its a sit in, but its a great fishing boat...I use it for ponds that I dont want to haul my atak or trident out for....

Austin canoe and kayak has them online with free shipping...

Emotion stealth 11 angler, Cabelas has them for $360 right now, usually $450.

Got mine at westmarine for $450. It was on sale, not sure if it still is. Cayman 11.5

I like sea eagle inflatable. I use it in FW. and SW

keep in mind money to be spent on a paddle, PFD and transportation of the kayak if you don't have a truck.
