I am looking to get a new Jig/t-rig/pitching rod, the rod will mostly be used for jig fishing though. I mostly use 3/8, 1/2 once jigs. I am deciding between the Dobyns Champ Cast Rod 7'3" Hvy 734 vs. iROD Air Series Casting Rod 7' Heavy. I have read good reviews on both rods witch makes the decisions more difficult. Any advice/ opinions would be a big help.

For flipping, I might want something a little longer (I'm just about 6' tall and something more in the 7'6 range feels better to me for flipping). I can flip with my 7'1 MH, but I feel like I lose some distance and accuracy versus a longer stick and it has backbone, but it's not perfect for throwing into heavy hydrilla, lily pads, etc.

For any other jig/worm application, I'd rather have a MH weight in 7'-7'3 because it offers more range for throwing lighter bullet weights and jigs if need be and it'll handle 3/4oz before it starts to feel like it's toward the edge of it's range.

Are you looking for something to do both jobs? Do you already have either a good worm/jig or flipping stick?

I would get the Dobyns between those two

I have the that exact Champion rod for my jigging applications. Awesome rod for jigging. Although its been given the designation of  H, this rod doesn't remotely feel like a H rod. It feels like a light MH rod. 1/2 oz will be the max jig weight I would throw on these rods. Anything heavier I would look into the 735 that was mentioned. 

Im with bassinlou, I have the 734c, and just like the rest of the champions it feels one power rating below most other brands. I use my 734 for open water spinnerbaits in the 3/8-1/2 range, but personally don't think it would be ideal for a half ounce jig. If you are wanting a champion, a 735 may be a better fit.

Yes, it's rated for 1/4 to I believe 1.5oz... but 3/8 -1oz would be the ideal range I'd use the 735 for.

Remember that a 3/8 oz jig weight isn't absolute and may vary, plus adding a trailer increases the weight about 1/8 oz.

Dobyn's uses the numerical power system, 5 power is a good worm & jig rod rating.

X3 Dobyns 735, I throw all my jigs on this rod, last year it was the 734 and it worked just fine for 3/8 & 1/2 jigs but around here the cover we are flipping to is pretty light. This year I stepped up to the 735 and I feel like its a match made in heaven, that rod was made for jigs. The 734 is a great rod but with a 1/2 or 3/4 jig and a trailer I did feel like I was pushing it a little.

I would think about a longer rod like some have stated. I fish a Powell 775 and the 7'7" length is awesome when one hits it at the end of a cast or in heavy cover. I've heard the dobyns champion are some of the best rods out there but all I fish are powells so I can't help much just wanted to mention the length.
