What Is Your Favorite Trailer For Football Jigs?

Featured Replies

I don't have much experience fishing football jigs, so I was wondering:  What do you guys use as trailers for them?

I have found flipping/pitching/swimming craws that outperform (at least for me) the Riot Baits Fuzzy Beaver, but I'm telling ya, that thing is a killer jig trailer. A lot of my winter fish last year were caught on a football jig with a RB Fuzzy Beaver.

Depends on the size of the football jig.  I tend to use the the Bass Patrol jigs in the 3/8 to1/2 oz size.  Trailers for them I tend to go with the Trigger X 3" Flappin Craw which also gets used on the 3/8 oz Dirty Jigs.  Also use the Net Bait Baby Paca Craws and Tiny Paca Craws.  There is enough trailer there for action but still stays compact and suttle for the conditions I tend to fish.

Football jigs are usually fished in sparse cover areas with rocks, bottom contact presentations, they are not a good heavy cover jig.

If you have plain jigs without a skirt, GYCB twin tail Hula grubs work good. If the jig has a skirt, twin tail/claw craw trailers work good. Berkley Chigger craws 3" or 4" are a good choice for a trailer to start with. The jig skirt should have 1 of the colors in the soft plastic trailer.

I'm pretty fond of a speed craw type trailer most of the time. If not that, a standard chunk. Maybe even a twin tail grub.

#1 would be a rage craw without a doubt!

I like baby d-bombs, and lately have been using the culprit creature craw when I want to slow the fall down, both work for me.
