Si Transducer

Featured Replies

Has anyone mounted a SI ducer on the horizontal area of the setback on glass boat. I have Ranger R83 and there is a large flat horizontal area at the setback. The mounting bracket will only work on a more vertical surface. Is there a way to mount there or is it a bad idea.

Hey Wayne I have a quick question. Do the SI "pings" come strait out of the ducer or do they come out  at a cone angle like a conventional xducer. In other words do they go at a 90 degree angle to the boat or a fan shape.

Imaging pings for every brand are very thin front to back and wide to the sides. Not inverted cone shaped.

The thin pulses are somewhat like a CAT Scan that hospitals use. That is how imaging sonar can produce the picture-like images.

Humminbird's SIde Imaging covers from the water's surface to past vertical under the transducer on both sides-they overlap. You can tell you are directly above a subject as it will show on both sides of the SI view like this:

Same brush/tree just on the left side:

Humminbird SIde Imaging will show over 200' of bottom in less than 5' depths as long as the transducer is not buried in the bottom and the bottom is flat enough.

You can make it work. We did on my dad's Ranger 519. I would have put mine there on my Sport R70 but the bottom of the set back is cupped so it wouldn't allow the sonar beams to shoot straight to the side. Depending on what transducer it has, you can make it work. If you have a Lowrance, you can just take the bracket off and mount the transducer right to the boat.
