What Knot For Dressed Treble?

Featured Replies

Most the videos I watch didn't explain how to tie off when finish dressing trebles, assuming I didn't have the adhesive yet but wanted to get everything ready, how would I tie off a dressed treble while waiting to get the adhesive.

Look up "whip finish knot"... or "whip finishing knot" ...  It can be tough to explain but it's easy to see if you watch stuff over and over... once you've tied it, it's easy.

I agree.^ A whip finish is the way to go. Like DTack said, it's a lot easier to do that it is to describe.

Thanks I will look that one up and try it.

Then finish the wrap with nail polish.  You can go with the pro fly tying stuff, but nail polish is inexpensive and does a good job.  And it comes in clear and colors.

I was wondering if clear coat nail polish would work.

I have used the almost instant dry polish (Sally Hansen)  that is intended for plastic nails on the heads of flies and it seems to work just fine.

Learn the Whip Finish.  It's one of the staples in fly tying.  It's easy and it will come in handy for other things in the future, I bet.  Sally Hansen's Hard As Nails works fine as head cement, but any clear nail polish you find around will work OK.
