Need Advice For A Smallmouth/river Set Up.

Featured Replies

I've been fishing lakes and ponds all summer, and just got back into river fishing since my boat is pretty mobile, and btw large mouth are hard to find. I am looking for a good set up for small mouth. I have a Fenwick I use for finesse stuff, but thinking about something for weighted stuff. I am considering 7ft med fast rod. I'd like a 2 piece

I fish smallmouth in rivers 75% of the time. For me personally, I only like to fish with Extra Fast action tips for this type of fishing. I use 2 primary spinning rods - Fenwick Elite Tech Smallmouth rod in 6'-9" Medium XF, or if the current is stronger or lures are heavier a Daiwa Tatula 7'-2" Med-Heavy XF. I also have a baitcaster for jerk baits and topwater - St. Croix AvidX 6'-8" Medium XF.

St croix medium light fast. 6'6 or 7'. Some of my favorite baits for that rod are unweighted flukes, 1/4 oz tubes and gunfish 95. It has a almost moderate bend. Keeps those jumpy river fish pinned up good.
