Shimano trouble
Yep, and cold days, wet days, snowy days....

Shimano trouble
Shimano spinning reels are notorious for binding problems, nothing new. My suggestion is get rid of them and get a daiwa or pflueger. If you want a shimano that doesn't bind get a stradic or above. Loosening the nut that holds the rotor will make no difference. Over tightening it won't cause any issues either, other than possibly stripping out the threads on the worm gear.

Lews or Abu Garcia
Urinating on his own head... sounds like a shimano fan to me.

Pick a baitcasting rod for me, please: Dobyns Saavy vs. Denali Kovert vs. G. Loomis E6X
I would get an avid or one of the new mojo bass rods.

Stupid Tube Setup
These are the jig heads I use, they work perfect with the wider gap and angle of the eye and hook point. http://www.riverrattackle.com/proddetail.php?prod=TJ

Stupid Tube Setup
There are jig heads called stupid tube heads but there are also stupid tubes. Stupid tube seems to be the name people use now for a tube rigged like the one in the picture. Perfect rig for smallmouth that live in snaggy rocky rivers.

Who said it was new?

Stupid Tube Setup
I've been fishing stupid tubes for years. You definitely need a rod with some backbone to get a good hookset with a tube rigged like that. I fish them on a st.croix legend tournament 7'1" medium fast spinning rod. That rod seems to be a little stiffer than my other medium st. croix spinning rods. I'll throw them with my 7' medium avid casting rod if I'm using 1/4 oz or more. Invizx fluorocarbon 10 lb on both setups.

reel maintenance
That's interesting, what type and weight gear oil do you use for non spool bearings? Any issues with the thick gear oil in cold weather? I've been using a spray grease on the worm gear in my stradics and it works really well. It's an automotive lube made by wurth, I think it's called hh-s hinge lube.

reel maintenance
I don't really see any reason to use oil on a spinning reel. The only oil I use on any of my spinning reels is maybe a drop on the line roller in between cleanings. Everything else gets grease. The only place I use oil on casting reels is the spool bearings and worm gear. And possibly a tiny amount on the brake drum and AR collar. Super lube is a great grease for reels and it's cheap compared to the tiny amount you get with most reel greases. Wd40 is worthless for anything!

New curado model!!!
But see the thing is the Hagane gear technology is not an upgrade! All they did was change the name. The sustain fg was listed as having paladin gearing since it came out on shimano's site. Now the same reel is listed as having hagane gearing, it's not upgraded they just changed the name. The sustain is also listed as having a hagane body now also.

New curado model!!!
It's not just for the gearing though. Reels with an aluminum or magnesium frame are now listed as having a hagane body.

Look at what followed me home from the new Field and Stream store!!
Nice! I wish they would open a field and stream store in my area. The one I've been in was REALLY nice.

New curado model!!!
Dang man relax. And I still don't know what you mean by saying my silly daiwas. I own all brands of reels. Yes I went to the shimano ad you posted. It just proves my point, it's nothing more than a marketing gimmick.
-
New curado model!!!
I like how you go back and change and add to your post after I've already quoted it. Please explain how I will only call out shimano for using marketing terms. I was simply stating the fact that hagane is a sales gimmick. Someone was questioning what it actually meant and said he thought it had something to do with the gearing. Some people actually care about facts and what a reel is actually made of.

New curado model!!!
You must be mistaking me with someone else when you say my silly daiwas. I don't use daiwa reels exclusively or say they are better. And why are they silly? I hate to break it to you but no other reel manufacturer even comes close to shimano when it comes to gimmicky sales catch phrases. But yes daiwa would come in second place in that category. I'd still like someone to answer my question as to how older shimano reels suddenly have this new hagane technology.

New curado model!!!
Who said anything about lews or abu? I'm just trying to point out that shimanos "hagane" technology or "concept" is nothing more than a sales catch phrase. I'm interested in the truth not some childish my reels are better than yours game. Never said shimano was junk.
-
New curado model!!!
Seriously? Educate myself? My silly daiwas? Go to tackle tour and read bantam 1's answer when he was asked what hagane means. Can you explain how reels that were produced years ago like the sustain fg suddenly have this new hagane technology when nothing about the reel has changed???? It's nothing more than a sales gimmick. You can't seriously be naive enough to believe any of that shimano ad you posted can you?
-
New curado model!!!
Hagane is nothing more than a sales gimmick that means metal. The sustain fg used to say paladin gearing on the shimano site, now the same reel says hagane gearing and body. Hahaha. I've seen people rave about the new stradic because it has this new special hagane body material, lol its just aluminum! What a joke.

What is the oldest reel you Use?
I have quite a few daiwa tournament ss 1300s ranging in age. But one of them I bought in the late 80's and have beat the crap out of it ever since and it's still going strong. All I've ever had to replace were a few bail springs. It's been mounted on a 7' m avid for years and I use it for wading a river close to home for smallmouth. It gets used at least 100 days a year.

Reel advice
I would say find a new stradic fj or check out the jdm Daiwa luvias or if your willing to spend a little more the jdm Daiwa certate. Or if your happy with the president reels and they work for you, stick with them.

New Daiwa Reels on Tw
That's the first reel I've been excited about in a long time. Not a fan of the purple on the high gear ratio model though.
