Diawa Aird - Bad Blank?

Featured Replies

Hey everyone.

I'm a budget fisherman, as many of us are.  I have never owned a nice rod, so all of my rods are in the lower price categories.  I picked up a Daiwa Aird for texas rigs a few months back and FINALLY was able to use it over the weekend.  I set the hook on a bass, which was in a SMALL patch of weeds.  Next thing I know, the rod snapped in half.  I've never had this happen, but I'd have to imagine that it was a fluke thing.  Here are the pics of the broken rod.

Has anyone had experience with the Daiwa Aird rod, 7ft MHF?  If so, have you had any breakage issues?

Thanks in advance for your help!

That is definitely not normal. There must have been a defect in the blank, or it was mishandled at some point during shipping or while being handled by a novice while on the store shelf. I would just return it to the store you got it from for a new one.

What he said. Buying rods off the shelf is such a crap shoot. So many people handle it that have no clue about rod care. I've seen kids having sword fights with rods at Gander before. You know those rods had to break the instant they were loaded in any manor.

You may have ticked the rod blank with a tungsten weight and that created a weak point.

Rods Break - All Rods, at All Price Points.

I've had $30 rods pop and $300 rods pop and some in between.

It just happens - sometimes there's no real good reason - they just snap.

Doesn't make it fun or less of a financial bummer.

Hope you are able to replace it and your next one holds up.
