Sticky Thumb Release

Featured Replies

I have a revo stc gen 3 with a very sticky release button. Most of the time it takes more effort than normal to push the release, it just feels like it is grinding on something. I have taken the reel apart to clean it but I cannot seem to get the thumb bar to work like it did out of the box. Also the spool tensioner no longer works 100%. When I tighten it down I get about 75% tight before I even get it to click or adjust the tension. What can I do to fix this reel besides sending it out to someone else to fix? I want to be able to take car of my own gear.

I had the same issue with a shimano calais ,worked on it and cleaned it but couldn't find the problem. Ended up being 2shims on the side of the thumb bar that had to be replaced. I had it done cost $35. Not sure if your reel has the shims ( it's what the repair shop called them) but may be something to check out.

My revo elite 8 has a very unrefined thumbar as well.

About 99% of daiwa/megabass reels I've used have had a sticky clutch. I'd send it in to get serviced...

My thought is that it might have some grit inside of the thumb bar. All of my abus have came over greased and I beat the hell out of this reel. Im 90% sure there must be some build up inside.  Going to clean it out and give it a shot. If that doesnt work i'll buy a replacement. http://www.hedgehog-studio.co.jp/product/1285
