New Dobyns Champion Extreme Hp

Featured Replies

Anybody tried this new version of rod? I just got mine and it seems like all cosmetic changes and some changes to the guides. Just wnated to know of anyones experiances or opinions of they had tried this rod. I know this is what all the future champion extremes will be.

Thanks

The blank is different as well. I got the new version of the 745 and the blank is a little bit faster and IMO a bit more sensitive.

Aside from maybe being a hair lighter, I can't tell a difference in terms of power or action. I own two 745's and two 744's, one new and one old. The new ones are all rigged up the same, rod-, reel-, and line-wise, as their older counterparts.

As far as I'm concerned, it fishes exactly the same as the older version, which is by no means an insult. They're sweet rods.

Is the "hp" a new model ? Or just what they are shipping now? . Mine is on the way but no clue with one it will be

It is just the new version they have now. If you ordered it within the last week or two that's most likely what you will be getting.

Where did you get yours from ?

Just got my 744 but it doesn't say "hp" on it. Does yours ?

If they're the same why buy the new rod? Did the old rod

blanks get fatigued? Guides worn out?

Its not a choice anymore this is the only rod they make for DX series now. Same rod. New cosmetics.

You probably just got one of the last of the older ones. Same rod for the most part.

I had two 744 and two 745 that I bought in the 2012-14 seasons. They're my favorite bottom-contact rods.

Broke one of each this season through sheer stupidity and chance.

Using the Dobyns warranty replacement program, I was able to acquire the new ones this summer and fish new/old side-by-side.

I think the new ones are sweet as hell, much nicer looking than the old ones. I'm between one of these and a zillion. If anyone owns this new dobyns and one of the new zillions what are your thoughts? Thanks

I'm a bit late to the party, I own both (but only since Black Friday of 2015). I haven't fished with either yet but by feel I'd go with the DX.
