  1. What size monofilament backing should I be using on my flipping and punching setup with 50 pound braid? Would 12 pound mono work or do I need to step it up to get the knot to work better where the mono and braid connect. Just wanted to know what you guys use. Do i even need mono backing since its a baitcasting reel? The reel specifically is a lews super duty so the spool is braid ready. Thanks
  2. Anybody tried both these suits and can give their opinion on which one is better? The Huk Gear one looks very nice but would like to hear others opinions from people who have used them. Thanks
  3. Looking for a new dobyns rod for punching at lake Seminole but also for flipping trees and thick cover. Would the fury 765 be to light for punching with a 1-1.5 ounce weight? Or would I need to go to a 766 for the punching. I would like to kill two birds with one stone here and be able to use one rod for both techniques if possible! Thanks
  4. ordered some 6 pound tatsu for a spinning reel. Would it be a good idea to fill uo some mono on a good bit of the spool so i can get maybe 2 rounds out of the spool of line? If so how much should i use and what pound test. Thanks
  5. I figured out from the guys at dobyns the NEW HP dx702 is stronger than the previous one. I just ordered one and with the added strength it should be the perfect drop shot rod.
  6. Thanks Columbia Craw, I already have a dobyns HP series and I love the new design and add ons. From what I heard on the phone the 702 champ and dx742 would be about the same power wise with the dx702 being a little lighter than those two. Do you feel the dx742 is too much for a drop shot with 6 pound line? Thanks
  7. I would get that rod but I don't prefer going over 7 foot for a drop shot rod. I need to make up my mind lol. Its down to the 702 and dx702 that's for sure. Thanks for the suggestion though.
  8. Thanks for the help DTack. I mainly drop shot open water 15-45 feet deep around brush and timber. I use a texas rig on the drop shot 90% of the time with a roboworm rebarb hook. I also do the exposed hook at times though. I am still really torn between the two to be honest. Thanks
  9. Just got off the phone with a guy at dobyns. He said the DX702 "finesse special" is more of a 1.5 power rod where as the champion 702 is a true 2 power. He recommended the champion 702 due to the additional power. Any of you guys experiance this?
  10. Thanks for your flea market recommendation but i already get a discount and a 701 would be way to light for me personally.
  11. Looking for suggestions on what model I should get. Pretty set on the 702 but is the action between the champion and champion extreme very different and does one suit drop shotting a lot better than the other? Thanks
  12. I have been looking to get two new spinning reels at the 80-100 dollar price point and have the Pflueger supreme, Supreme MGX, and President Limited Edition in mind. Wanted to know of any people experiences with these as I know the Supremes were just revamped this year. Any info on which is best would be appreciated. Thanks!
  13. You probably just got one of the last of the older ones. Same rod for the most part.
  14. Its not a choice anymore this is the only rod they make for DX series now. Same rod. New cosmetics.
  15. It is just the new version they have now. If you ordered it within the last week or two that's most likely what you will be getting.
  16. Anybody tried this new version of rod? I just got mine and it seems like all cosmetic changes and some changes to the guides. Just wnated to know of anyones experiances or opinions of they had tried this rod. I know this is what all the future champion extremes will be. Thanks
  17. Thanks for all the input guys. Its down to the bb1 pro (which is now in stock) and a tatula. I'll probably get the bb1
  18. Honestly dx744. Most people use 7-7 3' foot rods for deep and shallow jig fishing so a 7 4' will do you just fine. I have a dx744 and its a dream. Plus you can skip docks with it without trouble.
  19. I was told by *** the bb1 pro is now a discontinued reel.
  20. Just want peoples honest opinions for who had used both. thanks!
  21. Just saw that thanks^ still would like to hear people suggestions.
  22. Decided on a crankbait rod (805 cbrm dobyns champion) and now I need a reel. I was gonna go with the lews bb1 pro but they are now discontinued and sold. I'd prefer 100-200$ range and lews is preferred. Open to other brands to though. Thanks!
  23. Thanks for all the responses guys. Called dobyns and I am getting an 805cbrm. Now any advice on a cranking reel?
  24. Looking at getting one of these rods. Dont need any help with brands just want to know if anyone has had experiance with these doybns cranking rods and what they thought about the two and what the ups and downs are for each rod. Thanks for any help!
