Sunline Assassin

Featured Replies

I used it for the 1st time saturday and was impressed. Soft, slick, sensitive. I did notice super small frays around the knot though. Really small but i could see them.....Is this new stuff for sunline? I have not fished all the popular ones, shooter, sniper, ect.

Yes, the Assassin was just released about a month or two ago. I bought a spool of 8 and 15lb but haven't used it yet. I use Sniper almost exclusively for my FC needs, so I'm interested to see how the Assassin performs, being that its at the same price point.

I've been using it for a few weeks now.. I have the 12lb. on 3 of my jig rods and so far I like it. I don't think it's quite as manageable as sniper and it's a bit larger in diameter. The good news is it ties a good knot and seems to hold up well.

Also it's cheaper and it's on a 225yd spool vs 200 for sniper so I can spool 3 reels off of it..

Hmmmm perhaps I have to give sniper a shot and see whats goin on. I really liked the feel of the assassin. For my 1st go round with sunline it may have created a monster. I was fishing the kvd xps and it was the 1st FC that i was happy throwing so i used it this whole season and caught alot of fish on it. The bass pro 10 min from my house did not carry sunline.....until last friday.

The assassin sounds a lot like Defier Armillo with better sinking properties.

I find Assassin to be exactly as you describe, basically a flouro Defier Armillo.  They both have excellent abrasion resistance and the same characteristics when tying knots.  The outside of the line is softer than Sniper or Shooter so you have to be careful when cinching down a knot because it will create frays if you tighten it and try to slide it down the line.

I slightly prefer Sniper because I find it has better sensitivity, though the Assassin seems smoother and coils less.  Overall I would still take Shooter for ultimate sensitivity and low stretch, but Sniper, Assassin, or Defier Armillo are what I go to for moving baits depending on my requirements.

Very helpful thanks

2.5 year old thread, but any updates on the assassin. Bought 3 spools of it and am curious if I messed up by not getting sniper. 12Lb for finesse jigs and senkos. 17Lb for jigs in cover&docks. And 20Lb for heavy pitching in cover.

It's a good line. I like Sniper just a little bit more (it handles better). Can't go wrong with either though.
