St Croix Legend Tournament Bass Rod

Featured Replies

Opinions on this rod as a good all around rod? Thinking about like a 6'9 med hvy or med not sure?

Great, Great, Great rod. I have the 6'8 Med Heavy. Great all around rod, I mainly use it for Jigs. Also have the 6'8" Med X fast. great topwater/jerkbait,weightless rod. If you don't like the blue color, I've heard good things of the Avids as well.

What is the most versatile action and power of this rod?

Ive had the 6 1/2 and 7 ft mhf models and I loved them. They were very stout and powerful for fishing cover. The 6 1/2 footer was my fav. I personally thought the 7 footer was a little tip heavy, but all in all is say they are fantastic rods and sure you'll be happy with them.

The most versatile would be the 7 ft medium fast by a long shot. It's labeled as plastics but does most anything you'd need to do with it aside from flipping and deep crankbait fishing. It's stout enough for jigs and triggs and soft enough for trebles.

I own three of them.  Very good rod but.  If you have large hands the cork on the split grip is too short and my hand sits on the blank.  After a few hours of fishing it gets uncomfortable.  My older full grip no problem.  Just a point to ponder.      I plan to find a rod builder this winter and have the other two converted to full grip.. I f I had to pick the most versatile it would be the tbc610mxf.  Just my opinion.

I have the 7'1" med-fast that is labeled as "plastics". I do use it for plastics because its my favorite rod and plastics are my favorite way to fish. Its got a lot of power and is sensitive as well. I can use it for everything plastic from a finesse worm to a plastic frog in the pads. Im sure the 6'8" would be as versatile as most in the ltb series.

The Legend Tournament is a fantastic rod.  The med will be better for light t-rigs, most treble hooked baits, drop shot, shaky head and other lighter techniques.  The med hvy will be better for heavier t-rigs, jigs, frogs, c-rigs and any heavier technique.  I would choose based on what techniques you think you will fish the most.

I own several St Croix rods primarily Avid Legend Tournaments. I love them all. That being said IMO in not sure the Legend Tournaments are that much better than the Avids. The fact ornaments are stiffer for the same action and I think have a similar weight as the Avids.

For me I would go with a 7MF Avid, but I prefer the full cork handle,,,,, the 7'1"MF LTB would be my choice if you prefer a partial cork handle. I think there is very little difference in sensativity between the Tournament rods, and the Avids. If you have the cash and really want to feel the difference,,,,, try the Legend Elite, or Legend Extreme,,,, "Best Rod's on Earth"....
