New Member Seking Some Advice

Featured Replies

hello all, im new here and was hoping to gain a little knowledge in terms of speaking. I love to fish but lately u have been fishing a little collage pond that's stocked from our local river. the pond has no structure or cover and I know there are bass in there but they will not bite anything I try I have caught a few on accident by pure luck honestly. there is also a fountain in the main part of the pond, so what im asking is how to go about the bass here any advice is welcome.

EZ, I am in central VA and fish ponds with no structures as well.  Recently I have had success with Jerkbaits in deeper areas and around shore/weed lines have been using a swimming jig with a Rage Chunk trailer, Watermellon color I believe.

Plastic worms have never been good for me, I think its because these ponds are heavily fished by kids with earthworms and minnows so fish are "on to them".

I haven't tried jerk baits yet there yet, I have tried plastics and nothing the only success on plastics was with a mister twister tail grub on a 1/8 oz jig head

Hello and Welcome to Bass Resource ~

Often times smaller bodies of water can be tough, especially ones that get fished a ton.

But if there are bass in there and one is persistent, at least a few can be caught.

There are a couple of fairly easy techniques that can be effective in here.

One is a drop shot and the other is a Soft Plastic Stick bait.

I'd encourage you to check them out.

I've attached some info on them below.

Good Luck

If you have a spinning rod-reel and fishing a pond with a aeration system ( the fountain ) try using a Rapala F13S floating minnow, excellent pond lure. You can retreive this minnow lure several different techniques, fast, slow, stop & go, jerk it etc.

The split shot rig or finesse C-rig works good using spinning tackle, try the search tool gear icon on the right side of the search bar at the top of this page for details or I can detail this for you.

Welcome to the site.

Good luck.

I will have to try that but I have a spinning reel right now I'm about to get a bait caster because I like the feel better, but I have tried all kinds of spinner baits in the pond

WRB's mention of fountain is interesting because we do have fountain in small pond that feeds larger pond. I never thought of fishing pond with fountain, but yesterday thought I'd give it a try with a swim jig and Rage chunck trailer, casting parrellel to bank.

Caught two bass and one catfish in about half an hour:). Nobody fishes this area so I bet fish have seen very few luresBait/line.

Only a few people actually fish the pond, people just feed the ducks and stuff

I started fishing on a neighborhood pond.  I had no idea what structure was at the time. I didn't know much about largemouth bass at all really.  The first technique I ever had confidence in was a 4 inch twirl tail worm from walmart.  The color was motor oil and I would fish it texas rigged on a 1/32 oz bullet weight.  I believe renegade was the brand..... don't think they make it anymore.  My point is that you can work on your finesse presentations on this pond.  That is my advice.
