Firing Pin Problem Weatherby Vangaurd/howa 1500

Featured Replies

Took out my deer rifle to recheck zero. Season is fast approaching. And after 2 shots. It quit... upon inspection. The primers are getting struck but with out enough force to detonate the round. I took apart bolt. Cleaned and re assembled. Same results.Any input. Gun smith's aren't exactly cheap.

Obvious question-are you using the same rounds as always?  Some rounds don't like a soft "tap."

My brother had a similar problem but his was a semi-auto and in his case, a "screw" had worked its way loose-preventing the pin from striking the primer hard enough.  Doubt you have that problem.

Ya the primers are barely getting struck. Like no impression left or indentation. Just like a scratch or slight discoloration. Probably 10 times smaller than it usually looks. And the trigger even feels different. Not as crisp a break. (Drop in timney) ammo are hand loads. Pretty much 100% reliable to this point. probably 150 rounds through the rifle

Sounds like you may have a weak firing pin spring.
