Lake Onieda, Ny

Featured Replies

Heading here for the first time this weekend. I've heard great things. Looking for tips, baits, areas for numbers of larger fish. Any info is appreciated. Thank you!

Umbrella rigs, river, bridge pilings. Drop shot, blades, wrecks, if you can find them.

Tubes for smallies! The pickerel like them too.

You'll love Oneida.  Honestly, I doubt that you'll have a really hard time figuring out a pattern.  I mostly stick in and near the weeds in the summertime and fish plastics slowly, but I'd guess at this time of year you'll be dealing with schooling and hungry bass and I'd think you'd probably want a moving bait to find them.  Smallmouth should be moving and active and I'd be surprised if you didn't catch at least a few walleye.  Have fun.

Went there in June. We fished the edges of the shoals with jigs, tubes, and drop shot. Be careful, the pin buoys can be hard to see in the chop. Tons of drum there too. Ontario is only about an hour north of there and is awesome. Definitely worth a trip if the wind isn't bad. There are largemouth in Onieda but it's mostly smallies. Good luck, I'll be at Wallenpaupak this weekend looking for some myself.
