So I go into my local Wal-mart today because I needed a couple packs of Senko's and see a Daiwa casting rod sitting in there next to all the regular wal-mart junk.  I nearly picked it up but the last guide and probably a few inches of the rod were broken off.  I was curious how hard it would be to replace the top guide on it.  The rest of the rod "looked" decent.  IM7 blank, fuji guides and all.  For the like 10 bucks that it was stickered at I might go back and pick it up to try and fix it up for an extra rod...

How would you check to see what size you need?  I know my luck, if I just bought a pack, I'd need what came in the other..

do you  have a set of calipers?  Just measure the tip and convert.  I copied this from rodbuilding.org a while back for just that reason.

Thank ya gentlemen.  That was incredibly easy.  Not a bad deal in the end I guess.  Rod cost me 7 bucks, guide was another 2 or 3 bucks.  So 10 bucks for an extra rod.

It was one of those couldn't pass up kind of things. I've got a small surplus of cash right now with Christmas having come and all and I've been restocking on a bunch of gear. Now I just need to find a cheap reel to go with a second rod I found. I don't want to drop 100 bucks on another reel, but if I do I'll probably pick up another Pro Qualifier casting reel since they now come in a low gear ratio.
