Helix 7 Vs Helix 5 , Worth The Upgrade ?

Definately a major upgrade

Si to Si

Definitely a major upgrade with a brighter screen, faster processor (handles mapping better) and the most important for Side Imaging--- a larger display.

Larger displays display stuff larger.

The power cord and transducer is the same.

I am super glad I went with at least a 7" screen for SI.  After going to the local BPS, looking at the Helix 5 SI in demonstration mode, I believe I would have been unhappy.

I was thinking about buying a 5 for the front and a 7 for the dash. Onlybthing I don't like is that neither of them is compatble with Navionics platinum plus. The 9 is but I can't even find one anywhere. Seems like it isn't out yet? Did the 600 and 800 series get discontinued? Those aren't even on Humminbird's website anymore.

Is it possible to use a Helix 5 si and a helix 7 si with one transducer in the back of the boat? I'm trying to avoid a transducer on my trolling motor.

All Humminbird units with numbers for the model name are discontinued.

The Helix 9 will be out soon, probably sometime this month.

As far as map compatibility, the lower cost of the Helix 5 and 7 series is due to a lower processing power than the larger models. If you want more capability, it costs more.

Both of those models should read the Nautical Charts on the Platinum Plus card, just not the extra stuff. They will not share mapping so you would need a map card for both. Only the ONIX and ION models will share mapping via Ethernet.
