Help Me Make A Decison?

Featured Replies

I just bought a Loomis GL2 7' crank bait rod for a price that I couldn't pass up. Here's my question. I have a revo s and a lews tournament pro. Which would fit the Loomis better? The lews is a 7:1:1 gear ratio while the revo is a 6:4:1. The gear ratio doesn't matter too me as much as performance does. But I have only used the revo with braid and the lews with p-line cx. The lews casted way better but Im not sure if thats due to the line... FWIW the other rod that I have is a St. Croix avid 6'3" MXF. Any input would be appreciated! or maybe I just have to experiment..cause I would like one reel with braid I think.

I don't fish crankbaits with braided line, and I would prefer the reel with the lower I.P.T.

I do fish cranks with braided line and would use the 6.4:1, but the 7.1:1 will probably work of it feels powerful enough. Just reel slowly. P line probably won't outcast braid of equal diameter. Are you judging the casting performance based on the same rod/baits?

I am comparing to the same rod and bait but they are different diameter lines. One being 12 pound p-line and one being 30/8 braid?? I think thats what it is anway...its either 20/6 or 30/8

I would personally use the 6.4 Revo with 10 or 12 lb CX.  CX is a good line and I don't like braid with crankbaits.

I'd use the 6.4:1 Revo, and use the Lews for a different application.

i too would use the revo for cranking.  i crank with 30lb braid no problems, can add a leader of the p line if you feel inclined to do so, but will be fine with straight braid.  just have to be in tune with your drag a bit more than with other lines...

I use the Revo S on my squarebill and jerk bait rod with 12 lb Izorline copolymer and it does a fine job. I'd use that if it were me. Tight lines!

I would switch it up till it felt right.

I use a BB1 Pro 7:1:1 for square bills and lip less cranks.. a BB1 5:1:1 for deep cranks and a Tourney Pro 6:4:1 for everything in between and spinnerbaits.

All my other reels are 7:1:1.......
