I bought 2 rods that have a rough cork. There seems to be small pieces that stick out from the handle. How do I make the cork part smoother?

Do I use sandpaper and if so which one. Also is there a correct way of rubbing it?

I split the grip on a rod and after shaping and final sanding there were a few nubs that just would not go away with sanding. I took a new Gillette razor and busted it up to get a single blade out. You can bend it to the shape of the grip and with some precision eyeballs shave the nub off. You might have to lightly sand to finish.

Use a progression 150 grit - 220 grit - 400 grit. I usually sand along the length rotating the handle constantly to keep the grip even.
