Electrical Tape For Backing?

Featured Replies

I only use the main line to fill a reel.  4 # Mono & 6# Braided are quite a bit.  300 yard spooling.  Have plenty for a spare reload on other reels.

I don’t personally care for the tape idea. overtime I feel that’s going to goo things up, so I use backing. I buy 300 yard spools of braid and top shot, get 2 to 3 Respools from that. As i fish 12 rods well you do the math, it saves me a lot of money. Just my way of doing things.

Shallow spool reels or aftermarket shallow upgrade spools are readily available now so that's another potential option.  Specialty skipping and BFS reels typically have shallow spools.

Are the FILLER SPOOL plastic pieces really lighter than filler line ? Or do they save money ?  I have old Mitchell spinning reels with spool fillers. They are not light.
