E-Tex

Featured Replies

I recently have decided to give e-tex a try over D2T. I have a couple of LCs on the drying wheel right now with the first coat of e-tex. I just have a couple of questions:

How long do they need to rotate?

How many coats should I use, is 1 coat good enough?

Thanks in advance :)

I rotate mine over night but a couple of hours is all thats really needed. I usually wait 24 hours before re-coating, but I'm sure 12 would be fine. 2-3 coats is what I usually do.

What you will probably find is that you will need a couple coats.  Usually etex tends to pull away a little bit from sharp edges.  On LC type baits it will probably be around the front of the bait.  On lipless it is around the edge on the top.  However, I sometimes get the first coat to cover completely (luck) and if I do than that is all I put on.  Most guys put on two coats though.  Just my two cents.

I do minimum 2 coats and most often 3. It has a little learning curve to it. Let the etex sit for a minimum of 10 minutes after mixing. This will allow the bubbles to rise to the top and become clear. Exhale on any remaining bubbles and they will pop.

Thanks guys. The finish turned out perfect, plan on testing it out this weekend. It's been a while since I picked up an airbrush, I'll try and have pictures up later on.

Curing time of E-tex will vary according to temperature and humidity, and if you mix it a drop or two heavy on the resin, it may never cured hard, so be sure to mix precisely 1 to 1.

The best time to recoat any epoxy is before the previous coat has completely cured:  That way it will chemically cure and bond as a single coat, and eliminate the possibility of delaminating between coats. If the previous coat has fully cured already, scuff it with a Scotch-Brite pad, and clean it with an oil cutting soap such as Dawn, and then rinse thoroughly and allow it to air dry.  Avoid contaminating the surface with fingerprints, or lint and oil containing paper towels, for your best chance for a solid mechanical bond.
