Need Help From Experienced Deer Hunters..

Featured Replies

I have a question regarding hunting the wind. One of the properties I hunt is kinda small. Its smack dab in the middle of timber with no fields, etc. anywhere close to where Im able to hunt. Iv hunted this property for two years now. I killed two deer off it last year, and one already this year on opening morning, which was this past Saturday. Iv seen plenty of deer out here, ad have gotten a lot of pics over the past two years so I know deer are there, but the more I hunt there (only saturday mornings) the less I see deer. Im not able to hunt the wind because deer come in from every angle. I more or less place a stand and hunt it all season long. My question is, when hunting in a situation like Im in, how do you hunt smart? I try to be as scentless as possible anytime I go, but it doesnt matter if the wind is wrong. Any tips or advice?

Deer learn to avoid danger. The more you hunt that same stand, the more they'll avoid that area, especially if the neighboring properties aren't getting hunted. If you can hunt other days or different times of days, maybe they've just learned to avoid it the times you're always there. Do you approach the stand from the same direction every time?

^^Yup.. Right now, they are being bumped here & over there.. and everywhere. Plus, the more time you hunt in a stand area, the more human odor you leave.. It's that time of the year. In fact, I watched a doe bed down in a shallow depression in a cut soybean field this past Sunday.. I see this happen alot around here this time of year. They may also start becoming a bit more nocturnal, just a bit though. Does are driven by their stomachs so, keep going out.. I've taken some big deers in November @ December. Don't overlook the obvious, the deer don't.
