bholtzinger14 Posted November 23, 2015 Posted November 23, 2015 This rod will just be used for chatterbaits. (just ordered 10 from Bluebasser86) I am going to give glass a try on this one. It may or may not work for me, but I am going to give it a try. Here is my question: Do I go with a 7'3" Heavy like pro Brett Hite swears by and uses? or Do I go with 7' medium heavy like the rod builder is suggesting? One guy has made millions using the heavy and one has made hundreds of rods and could make whatever he felt best suited the application and he chooses a medium heavy..... Out of the 2 which would you choose? Quote

One guy has made millions using the heavy and one has made hundreds of rods and could make whatever he felt best suited the application and he chooses a medium heavy..... Out of the 2 which would you choose? I'm going to try to only make this about what you're asking. Hands down 100% I would go with what Brett Hite uses... As you've stated... he has made literally hundreds of thousands of dollars outfishing people with this exact bait. There is a reason he chooses what he does and it's not only because "they're his sponsor". Before he was with Evergreen he was using another heavy action glass rod that I believe was 7'6" or 8'.. and I believe made by performance tackle. This is where I can't ALWAYS agree with the custom rods being the best option. I trust that someone will be able to build a great rod absolutely but it doesn't necessarily mean that they agree with what I find important with a rod. This is extremely hard to put into words properly and I know there are a lot of reasons to go with a custom rod and many people prefer them on this site. I see nothing wrong with them myself. All I am saying is I wouldn't take someone's word over Brett Hite's because they're telling me that it's the best rod for the application. I would trust him first and foremost. That being said I'm sure you could let the builder know what you're looking for and they'll build it towards your specs. I hope this made sense. 1 Quote
Super User Hi Salenity Posted November 23, 2015 Super User Posted November 23, 2015 MH should work fine but I'm curious why you want the glass rod? Quote
bholtzinger14 Posted November 23, 2015 Author Posted November 23, 2015 I watched Brett Hites youtube video where he explains why he uses it for chatterbaits. Then I searched on here and found many have made the switch with great results. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted November 23, 2015 Posted November 23, 2015 For one thing, the heavy and mh maybe very similar since there is no standard for the terms. Consider Why the pro and builder each suggests what they do. Then factor in where and how you fish and use your own sense to decide. I have heard some suggestions by successful pro anglers that I just don't buy. Listen with an open mind but decide for yourself. Quote
bholtzinger14 Posted November 23, 2015 Author Posted November 23, 2015 Yes, I dont know how the RainShadow blanks compare to the Evergreen rods. I dont know if H=H. Quote
Super User buzzed bait Posted November 23, 2015 Super User Posted November 23, 2015 i like to fish them on my dobyns glass crankbait rod as well. have done so on the 704cb and the 705cb and i think the 705cb was better suited for it. my personal preference for your question would likely be the MH. Super User gulfcaptain Posted November 23, 2015 Super User Posted November 23, 2015 If I was ripping baits out of grass the way he fishes then I would probably go with a H rod opposed to a MH especially dealing with glass rods that have a softer action opposed to graphite. May give him that little extra bit of stiffness to pop that bait the way he likes to fish where the MH may not. Just my opinion. Quote
Silas Posted November 24, 2015 Posted November 24, 2015 I agree with DVT. I don't give a flip about who uses what. That's what endorsements are for. And I don't wear Jordan shoes or use Mike Tysons cologne. I am NOT THAT person. What works for him may or may not suit me. For me, the Medium Heavy works. But I don't rip through grass. I fish wooded banks and flats down here in the south. I've recently been killing them on a Megabass X4 Black Elseil. To each his own. But choose what YOU feel is right. Quote
bholtzinger14 Posted November 24, 2015 Author Posted November 24, 2015 I went with the medium heavy. I figured after I fished it if I needed more I would just order another one and use this for crankbaits. Quote
Super User Jrob78 Posted November 24, 2015 Super User Posted November 24, 2015 What Rainshadow blank are you going with? Quote
bholtzinger14 Posted November 24, 2015 Author Posted November 24, 2015 I think RX6/E-GLASS if I understood correctly. Maybe just E-GLASS. Quote
Super User Jrob78 Posted November 24, 2015 Super User Posted November 24, 2015 I think RX6/E-GLASS if I understood correctly. Maybe just E-GLASS. According to the specs, the MH should do what you want it to. Sometimes it's hard to judge with glass though. At least the blank is cheap so you can build another one if this one isn't exactly what you want. Quote
