I know this has been discussed before at some point. But I wanted to hear your guys' thoughts on 1-piece rods versus 2-piece rods. The reason I ask is because the only rod I own and like to use for bass, happens to be a 2 piece spinning rod. I like to have fishing gear with me at all times, just in case. So the 2-piece spinning rod is the only one that is practical to keep locked in the cab of my small truck. I'd prefer a baitcast rod, but all of mine are one piece. So I'm considering making my next rod purchase a 2-piece BC rod.

So, I guess my question is, how much of a difference (if any) do you think there is between a 1 or 2 piece in terms of performance? 

For me, I don’t see any performance issue with 1 piece versus 2 piece rods. But, I had some two piece rods that cracked near the socket where two pieces join together so I stopped buying them. It is more of a reliability issue for me, and I do not recommend keep your rod in your car (you can google some reading materials during your free time). 

I carry an old 5'6" baitcasting rod-pistol grip-in the car for piscatorial emergencies. I really can't stand two piece rods, but they may have gotten better in the last 20 years.

I kind of phrased this wrong. I have multiple rods that I like, it just happens that the only one that is practical to keep in the cab of my truck is a 2-piece spinning rod.

JigMe, why do you recommend I not keep a rod and reel in the cab of my truck? Possible theft problems?

This has not been discussed "at some point", this has been discussed to boredom. You are not going to notice any different in performance between a 1 piece and the 2 piece of the same line.

I like 2 piece rods and recently picked up a 3 piece ardito. They fish just fine though a tad heavier in weight than their 1 piece counterpart.

I grew up using 2 piece rods, and I recently started using a 1 piece casting rod. I haven't noticed any difference in performance, but I always double check the connecting point of my 2 piece rods just in case. I still prefer the 2 piece rods since they are more comfortable to carry around.

Like you, my spinning rod is 2 piece but I DO prefer a 1 piece because I've had 2 piece rods come apart before.  Granted on an old rod that has since been retired but it made me a little gun shy on 2 piece.  I don't launch monster casts with my spinning rod  but it is the one I carry if I'm going somewhere and think there might be an opportunity to wet a line for a few minutes.  Plus, my spinning rod stays in my boat so I just store it broken down.  I personally would never put a baitcaster on on a multiple piece rod but that's just me.  You got one you like, go for it

to me if you aren't going to not use a 1 piece you might as well go with a true travel rod that you can take with you fi you fly somewhere.  I have been using multi piece (4 or 5) fly rods for years and have no issues and fly rods are put through more stress with each cast than your average conventional rod.

The only thing that you have to worry about is after casting 1000k times is make sure its still straight and tight.other then that 2,3,or 4 peice rods can do the same 1.Its the operator in all cases

I think some people would argue that you lose sensitivity in a two piece rod, but in my experience that has not really been an issue. If you are worried about it though, you could always invest in a tonneau cover for the bed of your truck. If your bed locks it would be a good place to keep your rods, but if it does not they you could always buy a cover that does lock
