Could use a little help with a tiny local lake- all of 50 acres.

A fair number of laydowns in the water. Flooded timber in a couple of coves.

Baitfish consists of sunfish, including crappies. There are huge crappie schools we mark all the time. Caught a few and they were mostly small; between 5-10 inches.

Water is pretty stained, lake is very fertile.

We spend most of our time in the lower half of the main lake these days. Fished fast, slow, on the bottom, off the bottom, close to the shore, off shore; didn't matter. Caught a grand total of two bass over 25 hours of fishing. Surface temp was ~49 yesterday.

At this point, I don't even want to catch a lunker or a limit. I would like to catch a few bass here and there though.

Thanks guys, anything helps.

Which side gets the most sunlight? Are there any creeks that run into it? Also what time are you getting on the water

That lake during the Winter has most of the fish where the steepest and deepest areas are.

We tried Wayne. That's where we concentrated most of our efforts.

We must be doing something extraordinarily wrong if we are fishing the right locations but can't buy bites.

Fish don't bite all the time when you are fishing. That is why it is called fishing instead of catching.

I fished at Sandy River on Sunday and only caught 14. Saw hundreds of them around thousands of shad.

Lots of competition for the presentation:

I don't know why but I can't get the map to zoom in but I agree with Wayne

Next after location is timing, just because ya ain't getting bit doesn't mean they ain't there or ya got the wrong bait tied on.

I copied the HD map from the Navionics website's Web App. It is the Sonar Charts map layer.

The east bank between the dam up to the first cove is sloping then changes at the first cove and the 2 points should hold feeding bass whenever baitfish are in that area. The steep sloping west bank are across the lake would hold less aggressive bass in my opinion, unless you can find a structure element like a big boulders or a shelf that offers a ambush area. Suspended bass without baitfish nearby can be frustrating.

Structure spoons, tail spins, drop shot and maybe a soft crappie swimbait like a Matt lures would work.

Also the second cove. (Fish attractor) round point looks OK with a sharp break, that is where the basin starts to ends and if the wind blows up lake, that area can be good (pre spawn holding area).

Across the lake west side, the other attractor, there is structure element of some type (butterfly shape) that looks worth checking out.

deep, I'm quite confident in your abilities to locate & catch bass which brings me to one conclusion...about the time we think we have them figured out the bass prove we don't!

Analyzing a map can be benificial for every member, we learn by sharing.

That cove near the boat ramp looks promising to me... You also might try throwing a weightless fluke (a grey and clear flake to match the crappie) , especially in deep water when you mark bait and bass. Toss it out (with a lot of patience) let it sink, then a couple twitches. Then repeat. - Tight Lines

You are correct and it is.

Help much appreciated. Thanks fellas. At least now I've confirmed where *not* to spend (a lot of) time, at least.

Intersection?
