Law in PA for gun gifted from grandfather from FL

Featured Replies

My grandfather bought me a handgun and is having it sent to me. Does anyone know the law in PA for this to be legal? I have already applied for my CC permit and should have no problem getting it but didn't know the law to make it legal for me to own. Do I need to get it transferred, and if so how do I do this since my he's too old to make the trip up here?

Call your local PD or Sheriff's office and they should be able to let you know exactly what the laws are. They should have a non-emergency number you can call.

Gifting in PA is legal within the family as long as your legally allowed to have a gun, but please check more sources for out of state transfers, your local sheriff's office might help you out with questions

For him to transfer it from another state, he needs to ship it to a FFL in your state. The FFL will do a background check on you and complete the transfer. FFLs usually charge a fee to process the transfer for you, around $30 at most I have dealt with. UPS and FEDEX require handguns to be shipped next day air only.

Once it goes interstate the Feds are who you have pay a lot of attention to also. You will have to ship from FFL dealer to another. That being said, if nothing in PA disqualified you from owning a firearm, you should be good.
