Let's See if Dave Hits This One

Dave had to change his tune about snow this coming week but now he is posting that there could be a big snow storm on the 17th to the 19th.

Let's see if he is correct with his prognostication.

Here it is. Feel free to chime in with your thoughts.

Happy New Year!

YES THE EAST COAST WINTER STORM THREAT JAN 17-19 IS GROWING .... The 18z GFS and 12z high resolution European Model Both show a major snowstorm affecting the Middle Atlantic & southern New England SEE IMAGE #1

The KEYS to this threat are

1) the severe -AO and historic -NAO weather patterns that are developing over the Arctic region and northeast Canada into Greenland Data shows the -NAO feature is LIKELY to reach at LEAST -4 SD below the... Norm !!!! see Image #2

RECALL the severe Winter of 2009-10 that featured several major snowstorms In that Winter .... BOTH the AO and the NAO reach extreme/ near Historic Low levels.

2) the New England clipper Low JAN 13-14 gets trapped by the blocking pattern over northeast Canada / Greenland. That feature becomes a massive UPPER LOW over eastern Canada which in the weather biz is referred to as the "50/ 50 ow" .... SEE IMAGE #3

3) the SPLIT flow pattern allows the cold air to come south while at the same time the southern Jet stream brings in a short piece of upper energy over southern Calif

I personally don't mind when Dave is wrong sometime. I like his track record, it gets me mentally ready for a snow event, but being wrong doesn't make me lose sleep.

i don't think he was wrong on this one because he did call out this possibility early on.  I have seen him be pretty wrong before though but few and far between......and he always admits it right off the bat too.

I would love to have a nice snow event the 19th or whenever actually lol

And I would be fishing too if the roads aren't crazy bad lol

Being from Philly, you should be used to snow on the roads...you'd probably be the only one on the roads...2' shuts down VA doesn't it...LOL

Yeah VA shuts down pretty much at the forecast of snow.  I don't mind driving in the snow at all, i like it actually.

You have to rub it in, don't you.

I am currently training for a marathon that I will do at the end of this month,so I would greatly prefer doing my long distance runs in 40-60 degree weather. This has been the hottest winter I have seen down here and running long distances in +80 degree heat with +90% humidity isn't fun.Much easier to run at a good pace when its cool outside compared to when its hot.So yes I welcome as many cold fronts down here as  possible!

Snow, and Winter In general, suck. Just sayin'. :)
