I'm curious looking for advice.  I have a public lake near me that is not al that big (less than 500 acres).  It gets limited pressure as it sits within a private rural housing area.  It has quality bass in it and I would like to see about pushing for some slot limits on those looking to take fish (not catch and release).

What is a good avenue to take?  I've written my local town manager (no response).  Ask the private housing development where the lake is located within (no response).

If it doesn't get much pressure then why worry about a slot limit?  you mentioned that it was fishing well and there are quality bass so to me, it sounds like it is doing just fine.  

 

As far as pushing for a slot limit, you would have to push it to whoever manages the public fisheries in your state i would imagine but you also have to remember that they probably already looked into it and chose the limits based on what they thought was best anyways.  Slot limits are really only effective if people follow them and I am not sure about your state but here in VA i have run into a warden 2 times and both were on the same lake in my 12 years living and fishing here in VA.

Your state DNR should have local fishery management biologist that survey the lake using electro shocking to verify the lakes fish population, including prey fish and game fish that include bass. If the lakes has a good balance of year classes, they will not impose a slot limit, if a few year classes are missing or the population is unbalanced they may suggest voluntary slot limit.
