Ardent f700 flippin reel

Featured Replies

Has anyone used the aredent f700 its the blue one the deny brauer edition . i have been looking at them and want one but wanna know any info good or bad on them before i do

They're built well enough but over priced for a niche reel with limited application. It's a novelty reel which is not a knock but in my mind a reel with fewer features ( adjustable drag and level wind) should be cheaper. Putting the spin on it as a "special purpose" reel is brilliant marketing.

I am quite new to bassin grew up salt water fishing .  so i umderstand the niche reel thing your talking about so im better off just getting a decent reel with a good gear ratio in your opinion @Delaware Valley Tackle

Yes that's right. Any of the name brand reels at that price point will perform as well or better flipping and still be useful for other things.

The concept of a flipping specific reel is not new, actually it´s quite old, back in my younger days during the 80´s when the "secret" of that mysterious "new" fishing technique called flipping them pros were using to milk bigmouths out of heavy cover came out every single reel manufacturer added a "special feature" to their reels called a "flipping switch", one manufacturer even went a step further and designed, developed and put on sale a reel specifically built for that "new and mysterious" technique.

There you go:

Shimano even developed a "power handle" ( it had an X shape and 4 knobs ) for it. It really had a monster drag and you could easily uproot a mesquite tree when pulling one of them bucketmouths but it really never sold well since .... well, you don´t need a specialized reel to flip a bait.
