Trigger Grips with Bare-Blank Access

Featured Replies

Hi.

I'm planning to build an ultra-lite or 'finesse' casting rod and was thinking about using a trigger grip of the type in the title.

However, it seems to me that the very thin blanks involved would need padding out to properly fit the internal diameter of the reel seat.  So there would be a layer between the blank and the fingers anyway.  Does anyone have a recommendation as to what could be used to maximise the sensitivity?  Or have I got the wrong end of the stick?

Thanks.

The trigger part of the Pac Bay minima seats come in different hole sizes to fit directly to the blank, giving you maximum sensitivity.  The threaded portion will need to be shimmed in order to fit the blank.  You could go the masking tape/epoxy route, fiberglass mesh tape/epoxy, or ream out a graphite arbor, which would probably give you the most sensitive connection.   With that much of the blank exposed though, it shouldn't matter how you glue it on.  Good luck on your build.
