do yall prefer to use a bead under your weight on a texas rig when using plastic worms? is this really effective?

I always use a bead when I'm using a weight. I always fish the weight unpegged, too.

at night yes, day time no.  I have been outfished by my uncle in the same boat on several occasions during the day when I had a bead and he did not.  However, I've had the opposite experience at night.  So I would say give em the ole brass n' glass at night or in muddy water only.

I always use a little red bead betwean the wieght and knot.  I think the red might help trigger strikes, they might think it is an eye or somthing.

I also fish it unpegged.
