VA Duckin'

Featured Replies

The hard freeze means I get to actually hunt some ducks. They leave the neighborhood/park lakes and go to the river. In 4 hunts my brothers and I have gotten 14 mallards and 10 geese. This wouldn't be much for most places but it's pretty incredible for VA. I'm pretty done with trying to shoot a gun covered in ice and cuts on my fingers from where they freeze to everything so I think this will wrap up my duckin' for the season. Warming trend on the way so the geese will be in trouble as usual if I decide not to fish!

Mallards are great if properly prepared.

Geese on the other hand, I wouldn't give to my dog.

Awesome.

i just started duck/goose hunting this year and I'm hooked. Went most the season not hitting a thing or hitting them but they seem to have had bullet proof vests on. Then at the end of the season I smoked a goose and everything clicked and I have dropped everything I shot at even got a double with one shot and one handed because my sling was tangled in the pop up blind door.

Im anxiously waiting our March goose season.

Yes!! I marinate them in some kind of Asian marinate, then grill over a hot charcoal fire to medium rare. Delicious!!!

Brine in salt/brown sugar water for 2-3 days, slice the breast open and stuff with sausage, peppers, and onions, wrap in bacon, and grill it. I would never give goose to my dog either, that would mean I don't get to have any!

They make great jerky also
