Fishing In/Around Los Angeles

Featured Replies

I recently moved to Los Angeles, studio city to be exact, from Louisiana and have not fished since moving here in September. The serious itch has begun, so I'm here looking to see if anyone can point me where to go or possibly even has an open spot in there boat every once in a while. Due to work I am only free on weekends, sometimes saturday and always sundays. Any information would be greatly appreciated!

Well first off, welcome to the forums and well at the moment windy and wet Southern California.  Shoot me a pm sometime although most of my fishing is done in Southern LA County/North Orange County and I can help you out.

There are several bass fishing clubs in the San Fernando valley.

West Valley Bassmasters and Southern California Bassmasters are nearby, check those to start with to see if they are open to new members.

Take a short drive north on I5 to Castaic. After fishing, go to the taco truck next to the Pilot truck stop. The closes tacos to home made.

Comming from Louisiana to SoCal to bass fish would be like landing on Mars...no grass/weeds, only barren steep rocky terrain with deep clear water. For this reason I suggested finding a local bass club to help you learn how to bass fish our lakes. Turners Outdoors in Reseda isn't far away and a tackle shop to visit or Action Tackle in Mission Hills, Fish N Fools in Granda Hills., all have knowledgeable bass anglers to get you started.

Driving up to Lake Castaic is a good idea, the lower lagoon a good place to start from shore.

Gallion's market-gas station-tackle makes excellent deli sandwiches and can also offer some fishing tips.

If you want to know what type of tackle to use in our local bass lakes, just ask.

just look at all of the people's profile posting from california , see what common favorite lakes we all have and go there

If you had connections you could get into Sherwood or Westlake. I live 3000 miles away but those 2 rank the highest for me in that general area.

X2 for Westlake. Find someone that is an association member and you have it made!!!

That place is sick. I caught two over 8, one over 6 and a bunch of 2-3's the same day.

You also might want to check out the surf fishing scene in SoCal - the warmer water means a huge variety of fish, and as much as I like catching my freshwater bass, they're the Doritos eating cousin to the fight the calico bass and spotted bay bass put up.
