I have a 14 foot aluminum boat with a 9.9 outboard. I am going to be purchasing a new trolling motor  soon just wondering if you guys think a 30 lb thrust would be good or should i get the 55? Should add that its gotta be a handle one not the cool foot pedal one no way of supporting a foot pedal one.. thanks

If you fish when its windy I'd get the larger motor.

You can put a deck on the bow to mount a foot control trolling motor. I have used plywood or sheet aluminum for that purpose covered with I/O carpet.

As much as i would love to put a deck in it i think my boat would be to unstable if you stood higher than what you normally do

Not a deck for you, a small deck as a mount surface for the trolling motor and sonar unit if you get one.

 

12' jon boat I used to have. Had a 10' done the same way:

Most of the time a 30 would be sufficient HOWEVER if it is windy and/or it's a trolling motor only lake, a 55 will get you around a lot faster.
