I am a beginner on baitcast reels, I was wondering what line to use for all purpose baitcaster. Should I use braid with a mono leader? If so what paound test.

 

if you're truly a beginner, go get some cheap mono and get used to the reel.... you'll save some money in the backlashes you'll be cutting out...  get some 12# trilene big game and practice til your arms fall off. 

when you're good with the reel, then step up the line.

a great all around for me is 30lb braid with leader of choice or no leader at all, just depending on the bait and conditions.

Get the cheapest nylon you can find and learn how to set and control the reel first.

x3 on the cheap mono to learn. You will appreciate it as you cut off a couple spools worth during the process.

One thing you can do is pull off a little over a good cast distance and put a piece of tape across the remaining line. That way the backlashes will only go that deep. Will help save some line also.

Otherwise, practice, practice, practice, then repeat.
