help with weighting

Featured Replies

How do you weight a swimbait? Do you split it and then glue it back together or drill holes? If you drill holes and put weight in that way, how do you fill it to have a smooth surface to paint? Any help would be much appreciated.

i make my baits in 2 halves so i can carve out the weight chambers before assembling it. lots of guys drill holes in the bottom to add the weight. i use Bondo to fill it . it sands smooth and won't shrink.

keep as much bait as low in the bait as you can to keep it stable.

I drill and bondo.

I really like the bondo because it is ready for sanding within 30 minutes. Sands real easy with a flap wheel on the drill press. It accepts pain well, but I seal after this process anyway.
