Android Glitch

Featured Replies

Hello,

I have a bug.

Running Kitkat with Firefox, I am unable to reply using quotes without being forced to reply inside the quote box.

I am not sure what to make of this as all other forums and entries work fine.  I have been through the browser and system configurations and see nothing out of the ordinary.

Regards,

Josh

Ok, so if you're not willing to disclose what it is, then you're out of luck.  We can't help you.

However, I'd fathom a guess it's simply too old to work with newer website code like ours.

I'm more than willing to disclose it... been working on a response that wouldn't post from Android FireFox Browser, so I came to the PC.  Or were you responding to Alonerankin2?

Which device are you using?

Glenn,

The one I have in mind is a modified Kindle Fire.  It is running KitKat, not the Fire OS that came with it.  The browser is FireFox Mobile.

I've duplicated the problem with a Kyocera phone running Android ICS (stock to that phone) and on a month-old Samsung Galaxy.  Both of those are running FireFox as well.  It's not a software/age issue; if it was my old BlackBerry 8320, I'd not even mess with it.

I've yet to try the native Android browser.  That's on my to-do list.

The common themes here are Bass Resource Forums, Firefox Mobile Browser, and Android ICS to, I believe, Marshmallow.  It's acting like there's a memory exception someplace, but I can't be sure of that.

I do use another forum that uses this same BBS software and it poses no problem whatsoever.

I'm curious as to whether others are having this issue, what the issue is, and if it can be corrected.

Regards,

Josh

Much better.

Unfortunately, I am unable to replicate this issue on Android with Chrome and Firefox. In Firefox, the quote has the cursor still in within the quote but you can click out below it easily.

If that does not solve your issue, then I suggest clearing out your cache and cookies, and restarting your device.

Other thing is if you're using any type of ****ing,
javascript blocking software, or something like Ghostery.

You'll need to make sure bassresource.com is on the
whitelist.

Yes, Sir, I did do all that.  Are you running Android/FireFox successfully?

Glenn,

I did do all the usual stuff.

Here's a question:  When you tried this, did you type, or did you just put the cursor in the box below the quotes?

I ask this only because the problem I'm having manifests itself like this:

1.  I hit "reply" or "quote".

2.  I touch the box to put the cursor below the quote boxes.

3.  As soon as I type, the cursor jumps up in to the nearest quote box and stays there.  If I hit backspace, it will try to duplicate the last word in the quote!  I've not encountered anything like this, ever.

If you're able to type, then it must be something common to three devices on my connection.  Your responses are helping me troubleshoot on my end.

Thank you.

No, I run iOS, but I have experience with Android, and
I have to deal with multiple platforms in what I do.

Firefox lost me as a customer years ago. I use Chrome.

It is just a troubleshooting step to eliminate the potential
that blockers, scripts, etc., are causing issues. As well,
any third-party add-ons should be disabled. If it works
when Firefox is clean then re-enable the add-ons one at
a time and test each time until it fails. Then you've found
the culprit.

Thank you very much for bringing this issue to our attention. I was able to reproduce this issue and I have created a bug report.

Glenn,

Thank YOU. As of right now I think I can reply on Android due to the change deleting the mobile quote option. This reply is the test.

The quote above should show up due to BB quote tags.

This new system should be much better. Every change in the history of computer systems has had bugs, but the trend has always been toward steady improvement.

Thank you for all you do here!

Josh

Darren,

Firefox lost me for a while, too. They then improved again and I went back. I like custom configuring.

Do you know any good books on Android? I am versed in Windows through experience since 3.1 and because of college networking and computer repair courses, but the Linux kernel was rarely mentioned, let alone dwelled upon. I've become interested in really delving into the system/architecture but can't seem to find any decent resources to learn from.

Unfortunately no, I really don't have any books I could
recommend for Android. I dwell in the OS X world and
never ventured much into Linux. I used to be an IT
manager for a global telecom, so my troubleshooting
practices followed me :)

As for Firefox, they lost me back at 3.0 when they
inexplicably dropped support for AppleScript language.
I could never get an answer as to why, and the devs would
say they were working on it -- for years -- but they never
added simple commands back into the mix. So I never
looked back -- well, I download and check every new version
to see if they fixed it, but they haven't and I don't know if they
ever will.

Glenn,

It's back.

The workaround is to block scripting on Bass Resource and from Google Tag Services. Both can be done using **** (http://****.net/nsa) for mobile devices.

Josh

Well, looks like a certain plugin I use for diagnostics and such isn't a good word here. No idea why, but I apologize for not knowing..?
