Daiwa Knobs

Featured Replies

I purchased some grey daiwa I shaped knobs and the bearings on the reel handle won't fit them. Does anyone know if different jobs take different bearings or a trick to get them to fit?

heres what I'm working with.

i called daiwa and they said they would gladly sell me a handle but no knobs.

i have many daiwas, both spinning and casting, and they all take 4x7x2.5 bearings in the knobs. i'm not familiar with the knob shown in your first two pictures but the I-shape knob should take two 4x7x2.5 bearings.

Thank you for the response. I bought the reel used, I believe it's a bass art knob or some thing like that. It looks like there might be 3 bearings in it. I got 2 out of the knob but it looks like a third might be in there. I do t know if that's possible? I will measure the bearings when get home.

The size you mentioned aren't they the same size as shimano handle bearings? Would it be possible to but a shimano knob on there?

your grey daiwa knob does indeed take 2x 4x7x2.5 bearings. I bought 20 of them off amazon for less than 10$. I believe Shimano uses the same bearing size in their knobs. The problem /w swapping knobs is the shaft difference. Diawa's shaft is a hair longer than Shimanos The diameter or daiwa and shimano handles are 4mm (which is why I think the bearings are interchangeable). 21 farms actually posted about this a couple years ago.

daiwa and shimano both utilize 4mm diameter knob shafts. daiwa shafts are 25.5mm long while shimano shafts are 23mm long. therefore, you can fit shimano knobs onto daiwa handles by adding a 4x7x2.5mm bearing at the bottom of each knob but daiwa knobs will only fit daiwa handles. keep in mind that many of the shimano septon knobs are left or right side-specific.

most of the rest—lews, quantum, abu-garcia, BPS, and pflueger—use 5mm diameter shafts and 5x8x2.5mm ball bearings. knobs between all of these brands are pretty much interchangeable. unfortunately, since there is no such thing as 5x7x2.5 ball bearings, shimano and daiwa knobs cannot be fitted here.

*** concept reels are the only ones i haven't measured yet. i just got my first one (concept A6.6) but i don't have the heart to start disassembling it without even fishing it yet.

what reels are you looking to switch knobs on? sometimes, it just more sense to swap the entire handle out. if you want to do that, they're all interchangeable with each other except shimano with their unique driveshaft size.

yes, shimano and daiwa both use 4x7x2.5 in most of their reel handles. and, yes, you can put shimano knobs on daiwa handles but NOT the other way around; here's a webpage explaining why and how: http://japantackle.com/Knob_installing. at one time, i had shimano septon power knobs from curado baitcast reels on all my daiwa spinning reels...just added a third bearing under each knob and they worked like a charm.

thanks a lot for the help guys. The aftermarket knob appears to be a simper fi knob, I cannot find any info on these knobs in regards to bearing sizes. Im going to run home and grab my calipers, reel and knobs and see what is going on here.

Update: broke out the calipers and the bearings are not the 4x7x2.5 so some new ones are on the way. Thanks agains guys.
