Removing Plano dividers.

Featured Replies

What is the best/cleanest way to remove the molded in dividers from Plano boxes? I want a box for line spools and other large things and Plano doesn't make a no divider box in the size I need. I did another one before with a cut off wheel on a dremel, but it didn't look very pretty when I was done.

I used my dremel with a cutting disk, then smoothed with sanding disk.  Very quick and clean.

Razor blade

Yup, good sharp raver blade or carpet blade will do the trick

Ditto 68 camero. Worked well for me.

How about a real sharp knife heated over a flame until nice and glowing.

"like a hot knife through plasti...I mean butter"

Cut and smooth in one move. (hey the sort of rhimes)

Box cutter

Either or................I have used both, and they do the trick. I usually carry a folding (like a regular pocket knife) utility knife for cutting things at work that takes the replacement razor blades, it work well for this.

If you are set on using a power tool, I don't see why you couldn't do it with a dremel.  If it didn't look "pretty" when you were done, then just change your definition of what "pretty" is.   Glad I could help.

I started doing it with a razor knife and then finished it up with the dremel. I took a lighter and melted the rough edges. Still ugly, but it works.

Hobby or craft store should have replacement blades for x-acto type knives. Many different kinds of blade types, one is like a chisel putting the sharp edge on the front. It makes trimming the rough edges smooth easy.
