G. Loomis NRX is it worth it

Featured Replies

Hi,

Seeing how the G. Loomis NRX 802C and 803C rods are on sale for $300 at TW, I'm really tempted to pull the trigger. Since I've never spent this much $$ on a rod, I just want to make sure I won't regret it. So do you guys think the NRX is worth the money or do you think I should wait longer for a further reduction in price? Also, what other rods would you recommend at around that price range for bottom contact fishing? I prefer 6'8" to 6'10" rods.

Thanks.

I don't own a NRX but read the reviews. I wouldn't wait long at that price.

Yes they're worth it ,, If your worried about money pick up an IMX there good rods too....  Good Luck

Thanks to you I just picked up 2 more NRX Rods. For me the 802 and 803 are my favorites , so if I were you I would be all over that deal....

I love my NRX rods, but i don't love them at full price I always buy them discounted or a great used one, but at that price TW has that's a sweet deal

You won't regret it and there won't be any further reductions. at that price, you'd better hurry or all popular models will be gone.

2 out of 3 of my NRX's have had issues, a broken tip on my 852 and a broken guide on a 895 and I handle them with kid gloves. The new 893 is still OK, but then I haven't fished with it yet. I have never had an issue with any other g.loomis or any other brand for that matter.  I, like Rich in Co would never pay retail price for one. That being said they are a heck of a rod. Especially if the stay together.

Did Loomis make it right?

Let me guess, the NRX is the same blank as the IMX.  Just like the Rage is the same blank as the Avid?

I'm also looking st those rods. I could use a jig rod and love my st croix's. Which rod would be closest to a mhf legend elite? 894 or 895?

An NRX at $300...is it worth it?

For me?

Absolutely!

For you?

You have to answer.

Depends on what you're looking for.  For me its all about the value.  At their regular price... I don't feel like they offer a good value.  My sweet spot for rod performance seems to be right between 2-300 bucks.  Will a regularly priced NRX catch me twice the number of fish?  Nah.  At 300 though their value goes up quite a bit.  Nice sticks.

Part of the reason I decided to learn how to build rods was the sheer value you can get out of it.  You'll never beat an off the shelf ~100 dollar rod but you'll get far more value from mid to higher end builds IMO.

Yes. If you're even considering spending $300 on a rod it's a definite yes. Enjoy!

Alright, after reading all the posts, I bought one. Thanks a lot, everyone!

Hopefully, my Tatula rod still feels nice even after using the NRX lol. I just need to think which reel to pair it with now...

I have the NRX and GLX's, and prefer the GLX's all over the NRX. But if I needed or wanted another high end rod, I would grab the NRX at that price.

Hootie

Gosh darn that TW sale. Count me in for a 872s. I'm just a sucker for a deal. This better be worth it. $325 is a heck of a lot for a rod.

at that price, i couldn't resist and just ordered my sixth NRX (an 822S SYR). NRXs are far and away my favorite rods and i've never seen new ones for less than 40 percent off. i may yet add another one by tonight if they still have any of the 872S left.

I had to pick one up too......

I just feel weird about spending $325 on a fishing rod even though I walk around wearing fishing related shirts every day. I'm a forensic scientist so I make a professional wage but still feels like I'm sneaking to order a rod this expensive. How long does this feeling last so I can order my second? :o

After you put it in your hand it goes away reel quick .
