Change of pace==white perch

Featured Replies

Tide and wind cooperated well today. We had to move a few times to locate the white perch.Bloodworms with high/low rigs worked well.To mention here ==no red/char beads on the rigs ,its was slow catchin.We didn`t blitz them ,but two of us got plenty for 4 meals.

The big one in the pic is 12"

Tell me about white perch, please. I've caught yellow perch, but don't recall ever running into these before.

Are they anything like white bass?

Thanks!

Josh

The whites are very common and migrate into most estuaries on the east coast in the spring. Excellent food source for man and beast. They do exist in  many fresh water lakes. Great fighters and will take artificial  lures too. Blades are lots of fun to take them.

Most common baits around here are night crawlers and bloodworms.

Similar in looks and habitat.

They're in the same temperate bass family as white bass, striper, yellow bass, and hybrid striped bass. They're the smallest fish in the family and have a real taste for the eggs of other fish species, which makes them pretty unwanted. They're labeled as an ANS (Aquatic Nuisance Species), in Kansas, which means possessing them alive, using them for live bait, or transporting them alive is illegal. They've only shown up in a couple lakes and from what I've heard, I hope they don't get moved anywhere else.

Anyone know if they're in Indiana? I'm all about killing off nuisance species though eating them!
