Planning to upgrade the ff on my yak and this one has my interest. Any of you have this unit on a yak and how do you like it? Any other units I should look at for $300. Looking for something that can show me a clear image of bottom and structure around me. 

A lot of places have the elite 5x hdi chirp for 299 right now. Its a pretty decent unit IMO. it has regular sonar and down imaging, no gps. Better than the dragonfly? Dont know

Yeah, I'm clueless when it comes to electronics. I currently have a lowrance mark 5x pro on my yak. I just want a color unit that will show me structure that's near me and a clear bottom picture.

I see they have released a new series called 'hook' that's replaced the elite 5 hdi chirp. They have a hook 5x that has chirp and ds but no gps for $299 or with Gps for $399. 

i have a 4x HDI and if i could do it over again, i would...  i'd opt for one with GPS over the DI... granted i know where i'm at and going for the most part, but the ability to drop some waypoints would FAR outweigh the DI for me.  i actually barely IF EVER run the DI on mine now, just the sonar.

no input on the dragonfly, but they look really slick.

I just installed dragonfly 4 DVS and I have taken it out once. I love it.  Its basic simple but effective.  I can see it well in the Sun clouds whatever.  However I have not had a a lowrance or Humminbird either.  But I like it because it has a nicer screen and seems to be more clear.  

I have an older Dragonfly and it is spectacular.

Yeah, here soon I'll be able to actually test it on the water and mess with it. That was just the simulation screen.  I'm waiting on a micro sd card for it. Should be a few days. 

I'm interested to find out how you like it. I'm considering buying the 4pro for my kayak, because i want to be able to set waypoints.  The extra inch of screen size would be  nice though. I've been going back and forth between the dragonflies and the lowrance hook units.
