What were they biting on for you? As for river smallmouth, I managed this hog in the river this past friday. Pre spawn belly with huge shoulders on her. Very healthy fish, she's covered in foam, I did

  • Hey guys.  New to the forums, but was pleased to see such an active Buffalo/WNY thread. I was down at the Erie Canal overflow pond in Ellicott Creek Park on Tuesday.  Spent about two hours there

I don't understand I paid $ 120 for the same rod ...is yours sc111 or sc11? I have the plastics spinning sc111

Pretty sure it's sc11. But for that price, you can't go wrong! I'm going to pair it with either a Daiwa Tatula or a Lew's bb1 pro.. Any suggestions?

I would say daiwa only cause I have never used anything by lews. You can also get a shimano curado for almost the same price of the tatula.

I love my Quantums... Great reels...

Going to fish the botanical gardens pond in South Buffalo tomorrow.. Anyone have any tips or advice for it? Thanks

I am going to probably say that by now the lily pads have taken over.. So weedless lures like a frog or a texas rigged weightless plastic.  Cast spinnerbaits or chatterbaits in any open water...

Thanks, do you think it's that bad that it's not even worth going to?

Its always worth giving it a try, just have a backup option..

Went yesterday aftet work.. Didnt care about the rain. Caught 9 largemouth with the biggest being 2lbs...  Great to get out.

Hey Chris, where have you been going? I've been doing a little Creek fishing on the Catt, but I'd like to stay closer to home. Which of the birdsong ponds are most productive for you, and what is a good lure to toss in there?  I've tried the Ned Rig and some underspins, but the weeds have taken over..

The last pond at the end of Birdsong is the better one right now.  Been using a black/blue chatterbait with a bluegill flash 3.8 keitech swimbait.. What ponds in op have you fished?

That's the only one I know of. Wait.. There are others?!

Hows in front of fort Niagara? Does the moss affect fishing out there i have always wanted to try it i know the lower river gets a lot of moss but since the part i want to fish  is actually out in the open lake i wondered if there is any difference being so close i doubt but just figured id ask.I am more of a finger lakes fisherman never really got big into fishing around buffalo area don't why but i figure i might throw the boat in and give it a go if moss is not  real bad.

Good luck Jigger, go get 'em. Stratos the moss hasn't grown this year yet so you're safe for now, not sure about later. The upper river chokes with it and it all floats downstream toward Fort Niagara but I don't know how bad it gets down there.

OK FINALLY got a decent day of fishing in. This was really only my second time out this year so it felt really good to be back on the water. Hit the upper River as usual and did pretty well, caught 14 bass and one toothy critter. Broke 3# a half dozen times on both large and smallmouth but never broke 4# today. Big bass award was a tie at 3.7 on a smallie and a largemouth.

And finally the big fish of the day. It's not a bass and it probably weighed more than 3.7#. Yea buddy!
