Smallest spinning reel

Featured Replies

I have two quantum XR00F reels that have been the smallest reels I have found over the years. I started off with the quantum ms00 which was pretty small but I found the XR00F which were even smaller. I have had the oofs for about 15 years and although they still work fine, I want something a little more higher quality, but still very small. anyone know of something very ultra-light that fits-the-bill? The 1000 series is too big for what I am looking for. May be a pipe-dream....but still I look.

Shimano makes a symetre 500fl that's pretty small and I had a pfleuger trion that was tiny. Maybe 20 or twenty five size. Both smaller than 1000 reels.

I have three Shimano spinning reels in the 500 size and have had good service from them (Sahara and Symetre).  They are small, and a good match for most ultralight spinning rods.

Tight lines,

I have a Shimano Sedona 500 on a 6' Avid UL spooled with 3.5lb DAM Techtan that is a bluegill catching machine. It's too light to do much anything else with. I've tried fishing for trout with it but it's so light I can't even get a hook to set in the fish's mouth. I have sight fished a couple 8-10 pound carp and a 9 3/4lb flathead with it though.

The symetre 500FL is a beast of a tiny reel. Have landed over a dozen bluefish over 10 lbs last year, and countless flounder. I did swap the drag out to carbontex. Here's one of the smaller blues landed:

Thanks for the replies. I watched some youtube vids on the 500s and will check them out. I have a couple vintage 025 sigmas that are very small but still not as small as the XR00Fs. When I say small...I mean smaaaalllll. I need to take some pics and post them. When I seen them I had to buy them (just because). :)

I went as low as 2# test but that was just too light. I like 6# spiderwire which is that same diameter as 4...so it says on box. So I've been able to land some pretty good size fish with them. Had to follow a few with the boat until I could get the net on them. Extremely fun little setups.
