rod carriers

Featured Replies

Just wondering if any of you guys ever tried one of these, especially the bank and shore anglers out there. I know I can sometimes walk quite a ways to my fishing holes, and carrying 4 or 5 poles plus all my tackle can be pretty cumbersome.

I haven't tried them but the main issue I see with those is what do you do with the extra rods once you start to fish.  It looks like it's designed to stand upright, but I know very few bank spots where there's any flat surface where something like that will not tip over.

The rod carrier that caught my eye, but I haven't used it yet either is the Rod Runner.  They have a 3 and 5 rod model and it has legs so it will rest on any angle surface, but can also be stored upright at home.  If I ever find one on sale or secondhand I might give it a go.

when hitting the bank, i carry my tackle in a regular old jansport backpack i already had laying around.  frees up my hands to carry the rods and i'll usually take between 2 and 4 rods with me.

I actually just rectified that situation, lol. My girlfriend ordered an Okuma tackle backpack for me for my birthday. It will be easier to carry than my current shoulder slung tackle bag, and should hold my Plano boxes and have room up top for my worm bags and soft tackle.

I ended up ordering a rod caddy from cabelas.  I had a gift card. It will hold 5 rods and has a carrying handle instead of carrying the bundle by the base of one rod.

Tom O'Leary and Jack Johnson are the only rod holders I need when on foot.
