Costa's Dont Fit, Maui's?

Featured Replies

I decided to spend for a nice pair of shades this year.  I currently use a pair of $50 Sunclouds, which I think are pretty solid for the money.  I tried a bunch of Costa frames on, and the only one that felt pretty good and fit my face well was the Jose's.  I really liked them so I bought a pair, they just didn't feel right so I sent them back and got another pair.  After wearing them for any amount of time (10+ minutes) I noticed a headache developing.  I tried them out on the water for a few hours and had a constant headache.  I tried heating the frames with a hairdryer to reshape them, no luck.  I eventually sent those back too because I got a headache each time I put them on.  Unfortunately I think that rules Costa out for me because that was the frame that felt best in store.

So now I'm looking at other options, not because I want to but I don't have a choice.  Anybody out there wear Maui Jim's?  I haven't tried any of those frames on, but learned through some research that they only manufacture certain lens colors with certain frame colors.  That seems so stupid to me because the bronze lens color, which I assume is best for fishing, often only comes with a tortoise frame.  No offense, but who wants a tortoise frame color?   Anybody out there want to offer me some personal advice regarding their experience with Maui's for freshwater fishing?  Another option I may have to look into are the new Oakley Prizm fishing lenses, I think that's what KVD promotes.  Anybody try those?

Maui Jim HCL Bronze lenses maybe the best lens out there. With that being said, I was never a fan of Maui's frames. I have several pairs of Costas, a pair of Wiley X's, and a pair Oakley Pitbulls with the shallow blue lense. Right now I like the Oakley frame the best. Your best bet is to find a place that carries several brands of sunglasses and try on a bunch. Cabela's, Bass Pro, Sunglass Hut or Gander.

I know its a little late but, Both pairs of costas i have purchased are a little tight at first and gave me headaches until the frame is stretched out a bit. Usually after a day or two of wear.

i find that nearly every pair of glasses fit differently, even within one brand.  you really do have to try them on and find the right fit.  That said, i used to have some maui jim's that i absolutely loved and they were light as a feather.  unfortunately, i stepped on them one day and broke them to pieces.  i have some costas now, two pairs actually and one fits MUCH better than the other.  i haven't worn the other pair in quite some time now.

I had a pair of Mauis and I did like them until my buddy's dog got a hold of them haha.. Switched to costas and find I prefer the 580g costas.. I prefer Tortoise that's me...

I have 2 pair of Maui's.  I love them, for me they fit great and are very light...forget I'm wearing them.

I own both Maui Jims and Costas, and both are great glasses. Ive owned 4 different pairs of Maui's and from my experience they always seem to fit looser then the Costas. But honestly I prefer the Costas for fishing as I feel the 580g lens is better then the Maui Jims. IMO you can't go wrong with either one.

I been rocking my Maui Jim Peahi in a matte black frame with bronze lens. They fit my fat head perfect, the MJ Canoes are a bit on the small side for my face so I hardly wear them. I did try out a pair of Costa Fisch and they fit good as well.
