I need help finding a new tackle bag/box and was wondering which is most versatile and had the right amount of pockets and boxes in them to hold whatever I need, thanks 

Check out the Flambeau AZ series of bags. I've gone through a few over the years and these have all the right compartments in all the right places. 

I use the AZ8 which is the largest of them all. It holds 8 3700 boxes and a little taller than wider or longer which As a co angler I like. It doesn't take up as much space as you would think.

I'm really pleased with it.

Every tackle box ever made has the " right" amount of compartments.   Every tackle bag ever made has the " right " amount of pockets.

You get to figure out what is " right" for you.  If it is a budget issue, you might have to compromise.  Back in the day, I when I was a meat fishing bush hippie, I had " budget issues".    I solved that problem by going to the good will store and finding the largest, most beat up, ugliest women's bag that I could find.   I don't think I ever paid more than a dollar for one.   Those carried all the stuff that I needed for close to a decade - and there was never any concern about getting it dirty or wearing it out.   My favorite one was a green neon & black zebra stripe one that could hold 6 or 7 3600 size boxes.   I never had to worry about theft with that bag.

Do you fish from a boat or are you a bank beater? I have different bags/boxes for each application.

I like using a bag when I fish out of the boat.  I use a hard box when fishing from the bank.

It depends on you and what your needs are. I like the Plano soft sider 3700 series when I go in my buddy's boat because it lets me take a nice amount of tackle and keep it organized. Now if you don't have a lot of tackle perhaps a 3600 would be better but the "right amount of pockets" is something only you can figure out as we don't know how much or how little the amount of tackle you plan to carry.

Can't stand the 3700 size boxes. Too much temptation to take everything. I do better if I concentrate on working a few standards properly and not try too many lures too quickly.  Plano has a new series out called a or e series. A more classic look with rugged zippers and material. They offer a backpack in that series too. Most folks seem to be gravitating to those lately. The only real advise I can give is don't settle on cheap or in house brands. I've got a drawer full of BPS tackle bags, cheap thin hook catching junk. Stick to Plano or Flambeau.

When I'm a coangler on someone's else's boat I use the Cabelas Magnum advanced tackle bag. Holds 8 3700 and 4 3600 series boxes with lots of extra storage. I keep it mostly stocked and just take what I need out of the boat for the specific conditions. When I'm bank walking I use a cheap satchel style bag from Bass pro that holds two 3700s.
